![]() ![]() You probably don't need to lower the ejection port if you shape the ejector nose properly.Īlso, Colt uses a very long ejector on their 1911 9mm guns for a good reason. If you refer to Dave Waits post, he was kind empugh to show a picture of an extended ejector, which shows how to shape the nost to change the direction of the brass. When you use a slightly extended ejector, you can shape the ejector nose to correct the angle and release of the fired brass. If you're having ejection problems with a 5" gun and already have a lowered port(I:E: jams where the case stays in the chamber, rounds coming straight back into your noggin and such) an Extended Ejector can help. It's one of life with a 1911's mysteries, as some 1911s run perfectly fine with the short Ejectors. In answer to your other question about Reliability, yes the Extended Ejector can increase the reliability of some 1911s by aiding Ejection. This contacts the case rim as low as possible. If you look at the diagram below, you can see how angling the nose can help Kick the case out higher by angling along the Green lines. A side benefit of Lowering and relieving the port is that loaded cases can be ejected more reliably, although in some cases the port has to be extended slightly forward to help with this. ![]() The lowered/Relieved Ejection port came about to further aid this process. Angling the nose of the Extended Ejector was found to cause the case to kick out higher and help clear the port. What the Extended Ejector does is start the Ejection process earlier in the slides' backward movement. At the same time, combat shooters were starting to compete in things like IPSC where absolute reliability came first. It was found that the shorter slide was causing the case to constantly jam in the port due to kicking it out too late. The basic idea behind the Extended Ejector came about back when the Colt commanders came out. ![]()
